Note 14/7/2018: invited teams now announced – http://espoirs.world/tour-de-lavenir-nations-confirmed/
There will be 24 teams on the start line of the Tour de l’Avenir on 17 August, with 15 of those invitations having been determined by the U23 Nations Cup standings as they were 60 days before the start of the race.
The 60th day is 18 June, and on 13 June the UCI published the NCup rankings which will be used to send out the compulsory invitations, which are sent to the top 15 teams in the standings on that date.
(Update 10 July: nations highlighted in bold have confirmed their attendance)
|16||UNITED STATES OF AMERICA||USA||18|
|24||PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA||CHN||8|
|27||HONG KONG, CHINA||HKG||5|
|28||ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAN||IRI||5|
|33||DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO||COD||4|
Not being in the top-15 shouldn’t be a cause for concern to countries such as the USA in 16th place, or even The Netherlands (lying in 36th place with only 1 NCup point), who are certain to be invited irrespective of their position in the rankings. However, the system it does guarantee an invitation to Rwanda and Eritrea, all of whose points were gained in January’s “Coupe du Monde de l’Espoir Blue Line” in Cameroon.
